January review

In this review I will be focusing on the targets of my first blog post linked here

My first target:
Get a job involving office work or involving some aspect of computing- although this is out of college I still feel obliged to say that I have effectively failed at this as every position I have applied to has conflicted with college or I was rejected from the role for various reasons (most predominantly lack of qualifications)

My second target:
achieve merit and distinction on my assignments- I have met with mixed progress on this due to family issues interfering with my college work, this means that I have missed 2 of unit 2 assignments and therefore am not able to achieve merit or distinction on that, this is also true for some for unit 4.

My other tasks are less specific or more focused on improving my method of work.

My third target:
Read the assignment brief to make sure I understand the task- simple idea hard to practice, this has required me to go through the briefings multiple times just so that I have a clear idea of how to go about the assignment to get the pass or merit.

Fourth target:
Get my work reviewed- this target was easy to do because when I submitted my work for grading it got reviewed anyway, however what I did as an extra was if I was unsure on specific areas I would ask my instructor to go over that section and give me advice on what was wrong and what could be improved.

My last target:
Organize my time- when I started this blog I was also doing a MOS course that took up my Thursdays however I have finished that course and have plenty of free time to balance college work and socializing

Conclusion:
I still have much room for improvement in my work and my targets; however this also means that I will need more or different targets so I can keep improving upon myself.

weekly update (4th update lost track of the weeks)

recently in college it has been a mix of catching up and driving ahead.
catching up on missed assignments and re submissions (which as going well for the most part)
as-well as forging ahead with the new units and finishing up on the old ones (unit 1 and 18 are still ongoing while unit 3 and 9 have been begun)
at the moment there has only been one assignment from each new unit (one of which i have already submitted for grading)

my progress has been hampered by having home computer issues that means that the most work i can do is at college with limited time, this also means that any data on my home PC may not be accessible at will so i have had to rely upon memory sticks to hold my data.
edit: computer problem identified hopefully fixed by next week

1st term review

16/1/2013

This post will be a smallish and will be about my progress from start of college, September until mid December. The main focus of this post will be to review my progress during term one; I will do this through a number of criteria:

·        Behaviour-
Overall my behaviour was good with minor issues such as talking in class or not paying due attention to teachers. There was one incident where I scared a student with some Chinese snappers (you throw them and they make a loud bang when they hit something)
·        Work detail-
My attention to detail in work has been varying due to many factors such as sleep or family. One aspect I have noticed about myself is that when I cannot put sufficient detail into something I will then go on to something else before returning to the area that lacked content, I have done this several times in this post.
·        Knowledge-
My knowledge on subject has been good for the most part and I have participated in  most of the talks (something I never really did at school), doing this has helped me stay   alert in lesson for the most part which has in turn effected the amount I learn and kept me up-to-date with the Unit’s that we are doing.
·        Assignment completion-
I am currently up-to-date with Unit’s 1 and 18 unit 4 I believe I am up-to-date on as I am waiting on marking for that, with regards to unit 2 however I am behind as I was absent for the last week of the term and therefore was unaware of the assignments

What have I done in that term?-
·        I have become proficient in computer construction
·        Gained qualifications in the use of Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint (Microsoft office specialist)
·        Learnt about the various business applications of IT in the real world.

Things that I can improve upon;

·        Initial submissions have been good for the most part with two or three not being up-to-scratch /being submitted past the deadline or not at all.
This can be improved upon by keeping up-to-date on submission dates, one of the things that I have repeatedly mistaken as midnight the next day (or X time the next day)
·        Punctuality is also a major thing that I found I have trouble with as I am regularly late by a few minutes in the mornings
